    Exploring the descriptions of World Heritage properties through the perspective of water using a narrative approach

She holds a Ph.D. in Architecture from the Southeast University, China. She has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, Delft Technical University, the Netherlands, in the PortCityFutures research programme. With the aid of digital techniques, she researches how the cultural connotations of the historic urban landscape are shaped through local and global cultural practice and how they are communicated to and perceived by individuals. Her recent research interests lie in the conservation of cultural heritage that is part of the historic urban landscape of port and waterfront cities. From a networked spatial perspective, she discusses how different stakeholders define, assess and perceive the value of port city heritage and water heritage, with the aim of identifying and constructing a heritage network that can represent and reinforce the local cultural identities of port and waterfront cities.Carola Hein is Full Professor and Chair, History of Architecture and Urban Planning at Delft University of Technology, and Professor at Leiden University and Erasmus University Rotterdam. Since early 2022 she has held the UNESCO Chair 'Water, Ports and Historic Cities'. Her research interests include the transmission of architectural and urban ideas, focusing on port cities and the global architecture of oil. She leads the PortCityFutures research programme, which considers evolving socio-spatial conditions and the use and design of port city territories, particularly exploring areas where port and city activities occur simultaneously and sometimes conflict. Among other major grants, she has received a Guggenheim and an Alexander von Humboldt fellowship. She serves as President of the International Planning History Society (IPHS), editor of PORTUSplus, the journal of RETE, co-editor of Creative Practices in Cities and Landscapes (CPCL), IPHS Editor for Planning Perspectives and as Asia book review editor for the Journal of Urban History. Her books include Port City Atlas (2023), Oil Spaces (2022) Adaptive Strategies for Water Heritage: Past, Present and Future (2020), The Routledge Planning History Handbook (2017), Reflections on Urban, Regional and National Space: Three Essays by Uzō Nishiyama (2017) and Port Cities: Dynamic Landscapes and Global Networks (2011). on September 18, 2023

He received his PhD degree from the Department of Urban Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo. His research explores diverse aspects of social dynamics within urban spaces of global cities including Taipei, Taiwan, Fukuoka, Osaka and Tokyo, Japan. He is particularly interested in issues of gentrification and spatial transition in various urban spaces such as city centres, historic districts and disadvantaged communities. Prior to joining Kyushu University, he taught urban planning and design courses for four years at Osaka City University. Based on empirical analysis using quantitative and qualitative approaches, his research aims at filling the theoretical gap in the fields of urban studies and geography, providing solutions and practical urban policies or activities.Yi-Ling Chen is an Associate Professor at University of Wyoming, USA. Her research is based on housing and urban development in Taiwan from political-economic and feminist perspectives. Her recent research has expanded to cover comparisons of housing policies in East Asia, USA and the Netherlands. In 2019, she edited a book with LSE geography professor Hyun Bang Shin: Neoliberal Urbanism, Contested Cities and Housing in Asia (The Contemporary City), Palgrave Macmillan.Ken Tadashi Oshima is a Professor at the Department of Architecture, University of Washington, Seattle, USA, where he teaches trans-national architectural history, theory and design. Dr. Oshima’s publications include Kiyonori Kikutake: Between Land and Sea (2015), Architecturalized Asia (2013), International Architecture in Interwar Japan: Constructing Kokusai Kenchiku (2009) and Arata Isozaki (2009). on August 24, 2023
